Hugh Baird College lecturers visit tall ship, Stavros S Niarchos ahead of participation in 2o15 Apprentice Cup
Staff from Hugh Baird College, which is home to Port Academy Liverpool, spent an afternoon on a tall ship recently to find out about the Apprentice Ship Cup 2015. The staff, predominantly lecturers, were getting a feel for the project so that they can encourage their apprentices to get involved and perhaps become mentors for the scheme themselves.
Lecturer in Information Technology at the College, Martin Speed, said:
“We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It was an exceptional experience. The enthusiasm from the organisers and the buzz they generated left me in no doubt about recommending it to my students…in fact, I wish I could take part myself!
Shulah Jones is Head of Business Strategy at Hugh Baird College and has volunteered as a mentor for the event. She said:
“With more than 500 apprentices studying at Hugh Baird College, and our development of specialist maritime and logistics provision at Port Academy Liverpool, the Apprentice Ship Cup is an ideal project for us to get involved with. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students and apprentices to expand their horizons at the same time as learning life and career enhancing skills.”
